The final rule also requires the State-designated licensing authority (SDLA) to publish the medical certification status on the CDL holder's CDLIS driver record. This will prevent false and fraudulent claims that a CDL holder is medically qualified, but in fact they are not. To further prevent fraud in the future, the SDLA must include the contact information of the ME who conducted a medical examination in the driver's file. This requirement will continue to be in force until FMCSA releases a new rule to solve this issue. Motor carriers can continue to keep a copy of the original or copy of the ME's certificate as proof that a driver has medical credentials, so they can prove the date on which the certificate was issued by the ME.
